Romantasy

Romantasy gives the swords and the romance equal billing. Neither is decoration: the relationship drives the plot as much as the war does, and the ending has to satisfy both. It is currently the most commercially dominant shelf in the category.

Where to start: Check the heat level before committing — the shelf runs from fade-to-black to explicit. Most entries are long series, so start with book one and expect a cliffhanger.
