Forced Proximity
Snowed in, stranded, or otherwise stuck together.
9 books on this shelf, newest first.
Forced proximity removes the exit. Snowed in, stranded, assigned as partners, stuck on the same long journey — whatever the mechanism, the characters lose the ability to walk away from a conversation, and everything they have avoided surfaces.
Where to start: Road trips and survival plots keep the pace up; roommate and workplace setups run slower and funnier. The strongest entries make the confinement plot-relevant rather than a coincidence.
